A raven saw a goose and was jealous of her beautiful feathers, for her feathers were as extravagant as fine white lace.  The raven thought the goose’s vibrant white color came from allowing her feathers to soak in the waters she swam in. So the raven left his home and took up residence in the lakes and pools where he could wade all day. He cleaned his feathers as often as he could, but they never changed color.
