A peasant was driving a carriage along a country road when the tire of his carriage got stuck in a rut. The peasant took one look at his carriage and cried out for Hercules to come help him so that he could continue along his route. Hercules arrived and said, “Have you tried to move the carriage yet? Put your back into it, my friend. Never ask me to help until you have done your best to help yourself already.”
